Busy Weekend!

A very busy weekend for our local community soccer club Maree/Oranmore FC with a plethora of club sides in action. Our Academy Training commenced last Saturday for our u6 to u10 boys and girls sides with good numbers in attendance. All age groups are now in training from u5 up to adult level,you must register to play by downloading the Clubify app,simple and effective to use. Our girls section is also gathering momentum as we endevour to field girls sides from u6 up to and including u18 level.

FAI Junior Cup

In the opening round of the FAI Junior Cup Maree/Oranmore FC eased past the challenge of Galway Bohemians B in Millars Lane on Sunday with a good 4-1 victory with goals courtesy of Steve Matthews,Reg Ahiable,Kenneth Mc Stay and Neil Greaney. Its back to domestic Premier action on Saturday next when the lads face Corrib Celtic at home in Oranmore at 2pm.

Irish Cup

In Irish Cup action both the u13s and u14s advanced in the sfai cup. The u13s defeated a plucky Cregmore/Claregalway side on a 3-1 scoreline with goals from Ben Costelloe (2) and a score from Ryan O Donnell in a good game on Saturday while on Thursday night in Athlone the u14s advanced comfortably after a fine win against St Josephs FC Athlone. The u13b side battled well in Letterfrack also in the sfai cup but came out second best to the home side.

U12 Action

Meanwhile several of the clubs seven u12 sides were in competitive action. The u12 division 4 side had a fine 1-0 win against a brave Kiltullagh Pioneers on friday night after a late Cian Quirke penalty following fine approach work by Daniel Hynes and the tigerish Rory Kelleher. The u12 Premier side played in an exciting 2-2 draw at home to a good Craughwell Utd side with Dara Cleary notching a brace in a thriller. Meanwhile the u12 division 1 side went down 2-1in Maree on Saturday to a physically stronger Kilshanvey utd side with Jack Raftery netting.

Other Age Groups

The u15 Premier side played their opening league game v Athenry in Athenry on Wednesday night with the honours being shared in a fine game which ended 1-1 well refereed by Danny Corbett. Gavin Smyth equalised for Maree/Oranmore fc after Kieran o Connor netted in the first half for Athenry fc.
The u16 girls started their league campaign on sunday away to Athenry. A game the girls dominated and leading 1-0 through a Tara Brogan strike it was a late late equaliser which saw Athenry share the spoils.
The u17/u18 division 1 side had a good 4-4 workout in Maree on Sunday last against Merlin Woods fc. The goalscorers were a brace from Dean Mooney, Ben Wright and Jason Meehan. Oliver Mc Camley excelled at the central defensive role while keeper Conor Carroll and midfielder Thomas Heraghty looked sharp. Thanks to our neighbours Merlin Woods fc and Referee Brian Moran.

September Members Draw Winners

The Sepember Members draw for a new 4G Pitch for the community was held in Keanes Bar and Restaurant on Saturday evening last. The winner was Declan Sheppard from the Maree Rd, Oranmore. Second was Colin Thornton from Lydican Oranmore while Karen Walsh from Maree won the third cash prize.
