Generally a good weekend for Galway Clinic sponsored community club Maree/Oranmore fc but the adverse weather put paid to some club fixtures this past Saturday and Sunday.

The u12 Premier side had to work hard to defeat a good Craughwell Utd side in the Connacht Cup winning 1-0 with a Dara Cleary goal but several uncommon defensive errors saw our clubs u14s go down to a good Mervue side in the u14 Connacht Cup on Saturday last.
On Sunday the adult A side had to put in an extra time performance and a 2-1 scoreline in the Michael Byrne Cup against a fine Merlin Woods/Medtronic fc side. It took extra time to sort the issue with Malachy Black and James Cahalane netting to advance. Next sunday sees the lads play away in Abbeyknockmoy against St Bernards in the Connacht Junior Cup.

The youth Premier side had a comfortable victory in the League against neighbours Colga fc in Oranmore last Sunday afternoon with Sean Delany netting four in a fine team performance against our neighbours. Meanwhile a frozen pitch led to the cancellation of the Youths Division 1 game v Loughrea Rams fc in an eagerly awaited encounter.

24 hours earlier waterlogged pitches put paid to several u12 and u14 League fixtures, The u16 boys had a good challenge workout away to Corofin Utd with Tomas Carter and Luke Lally netting a brace for Mike Burkes charges.

The St Columbas Credit Union Invitational Tournament resumes on Sunday Jan 21st for boys u7 and u8 sides and girls sides at u8 and u10.

This coming weekend sees club sides in all age brackets in competitive action in a packed club programme. Details can be found on our club facebook page or on www.galwayfa.ie
