A good past week for local community based soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc proudly sponsored by The Galway Clinic.The adult premier side secured their status in the top tier with several games to play by defeating Renmore afc 3-1 in Oranmore last Thursday.with goals courtesy of Malachy Black,Eric Neary and David Devlin in a strong performance by the squad.The u14 Premier squad are still in contention in their League after several recent strong performances including a 6-2 win in Crestwood against Galway Hibernians last thursday with the goals arriving from Killian Bolly,Ben Costelloe,Tom Delany,Steven Healy and a brace from Gavin Smyth.
On Wednesday last Maree/Oranmore fc u15 Premier squad played well away in Fahys Field in a 2-2 draw with Mervue with both goals arriving from free kicks from James Whelan and Tom Delany.This was a strong squad performance for a side who have three games left in their League campaign.The u13 Premier side have finished strongly in their League with a 5-0 win against Kiltullagh Pioneers away last Saturday and Corrib Celtic who have struggled all season conceeding.The goals on Saturday came from Neil Taylor,Jamie Cullinane,Seamus Fallon and a brace from Colm Whelan.
The u16 boys side were knocked out in their Cup on penalties against Carraroe based Macdara in Carraroe on Sunday last.Leading 1-0 till the end of extra time through Luke Lally,the Connemara lads equailsed direct from a corner in the last minute.The dreaded penalties saw Maree/Oranmore go down 6-5.A very depleted u18 Premier side who were missing several key players due to forthcoming exams and injuries went down 5-3 to Salthill Devon in Drom with Oisin Smith notching a brace and Sam Ojo adding to the tally.They have just two games in their League campaign remaining.The u12 div 2 side had a convincing win in the League against Tuam Celtic while the u12 div 4 side drew away to St Bernards in Abbeyknockmoy with Cian Quirke netting.The u12 Premier side top the League with 3 games remaining.
Last Saturday was the last day of training for our younger age groups(u6 to u10 boys and girls) for season 2017/2018,our club organised an exciting u6 boys blitz with Colga fc ,Cregmore/Claregalway fc and oourselves taking part.28 U6 boys wore the Maree/Oranmore fc strip while our u6 girls had also a mini blitz.
Maree/Oranmore fc would like to congratulate club player Conor Carroll on his selection on the Galway minor football panel,an excellent honour.
Maree/Oranmore fc were delighted to be invited and attend the official opening of the new extension to St Columbas Credit Union last Saturday.Our local credit Union have sponsored our very successful Invitational Tournament for the last number of years for which our community based club are mist grateful.
