A busy weekend for local Galway Clinic sponsored soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc with weekend and midweek games now going forward till the end of the 2017/2018 season.

Five of our seven club u12 teams were in action last saturday with three of them winning. The u12 division 1 side made up of u11A players defeated Salthill Devon in Oranmore on a narrow 1-0 scoreline with Michael Claffey netting from a free in a very close competitive game. The u12 division 2 side came from two down against Athenry to win 4-2 in an excellent game with a brace from Harry Gilbert and strikes from Sean Martyn and Alan Burke. The u12 championship side will be delighted with their 3-0 win in Maree against Knocknacarra fc with fine goals from Liam Lernihan.Ciaran Mc Donagh and Cillian Cannon. This result will delight the lads and coaches Gary Loughlin,Paul Mc Carthy and Brian Trainor. No luck for our Division three and Five sides who were well beaten against older, stronger opposition.

In early May our u12 Premier side will play in the Connacht Cup Final against Westport Utd.We wish them well.

Our u16 girls continued their excellent progress with a 3-0 victory away to St Bernards with goals from Kayleigh Slevin,Aoife Long and Ailbhe Doyle to keep the momentum in the u16 girls League.

The u12 girls despite their efforts went down to Craughwell in their League.

The u16 Boys stepped up their title ambitions with an excellent 3-0 home win against Ramblers Utd with goals from Ross Mulkerrin and a brace from Conal Doyle in an excellent win played in Oranmore on Sunday last.

The adult mens side in the Premier League had two mixed results,on Thursday last they beat St Bernards Utd 2-1 with goals from James Cahalane and Steve Matthews while on Sunday last they went down 1-0 to a physically strong Loughrea side. The adult mens A side are in 5th position in the Premier League with five games remaining.Manager Emlyn Long and his players have done an excellent job after getting promoted last season to the top flight.

The u17/u18 Division 1 side have a chance of silverware next Tuesday April 17th when they face our neighbours Merlin Woods fc in their final league encounter in Oranmore.A draw or a win will secure the clubs first silverware of the season,a defeat would mean a playoff with Oughterard afc.The game commences at 6pm in Oranmore and all support would be appreciated.

In midweek games there were fine wins for the u12 Premier Lads v Athenry fc and the u14 boys against Colga fc.

Well done to Calasanctius College Oranmore first years who have reached the first year FAI(schools) final after defeating Rice College Westport in the semi final. Our club are grateful of the work done by club coach Noel Greaney and staff member Ms Ruth Broderick.

The club organised St Columbas Credit Union Family/Finals Day will take place on Sunday April 29th with the fun of non competitive football for all players.Club Tournament Directors Sean Horsman and David Watterson deserve great credit for its organisation.
