A busy last week for local community based soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc kindly sponsored by The Galway Clinic.

The first silverware of the season arrived on Tuesday of last week when the clubs u17/u18 Division 1 side captured their League after defeating Merlin Woods fc/Medtronic 3-0 in Oranmore in a closer encounter than the result suggests. Daniel Arimoro notched all three with an overall very impressive performance with the rearguard of Thomas Heraghty, Oliver Mc Camley, Conor Carroll and Oisin Quinlan impressing while midfielders Tommy Hennessy,Ben Wright and captain Jack Grealish worked very hard. This side dominated by u17 players scored 23 in an unbeaten run and conceeded just four as they beat Oughterard afc to the title. Maree/Oranmore fc would like to thank the Acting Chair of the Galway Fa Tom Trill and committee member Pat Mc Cann for presenting the Cup to captain Jack Grealish to the acclaim of the large crowd in attendance.

The lads have now to face Oughterard away in the local cup semi final in New Village on Tuesday May 1st.

There was further silverware on Saturday when 44 of the clubs u10 boys travelled to Athlone to play in the St Josephs fc Tournament. 24 Teams took part with Maree/Oranmore fc fielding four sides. One of our sides defeated a talented Knocknacarra fc 2-0 through a James Mc Guire brace to win the Charlie Mullally Shield. Other clubs who took part included Hodson Bay Celtic,Roscommon Academy,Skyvalley Rovers,Clara Town,Temple Villa,Mullingar Athletic,Willow Park,Ballinasloe Town,AC Celtic,Knocknacarra fc and the hosts. Our lads represented our club impeccably with some fantastic individual and Team performances.

The adult Junior reserve side continued their recent good run with a 1-0 victory against Merlin Woods fc/Medtronic with Rob Mangan netting.

The adult mens A side suffered heartbreak in the 93rd minute last thursday in the Premier League when they conceeded against leaders Athenry fc in Oranmore to loose out 1-0.

The u16 boys gave their title ambitions a great boost when they defeated Athenry fc 5-1 in u16 Division 1 with goals from Thomas Murphy(3) and Conal Doyle(2). This puts them top of the table with the title between themselves and Kinvara Utd. We wish them well.

The u12 division 1 side made up of u11A players moved into third place with a narrow 1-0 victory last saturday in Maree with Alexander Szoska neeting. A Cian Quirke strike was not enough for the u12 div 4 side who went down to Bearna Na Forbacha Aontaithe in Oranmore on Saturday.

The u16 girls are joint top of their table after a fine 3-0 win against Kilshanvey Utd with goals from Kayleigh Slevin,Ailbhe Doyle and Aisling Quinn.

In the Jimmy Sullivan Youth Cup the Maree/Oranmore fc u18 lads were edged out 3-2 after extra time against Salthill Devon with an unusual below par performance with the goals coming from Sean Delany and Jack Morrissey. The lads have to play the same opposition twice in the League and will be hoping for better fortunes.
