The soccer players of local community club Maree/Oranmore fc certainly had a busy weekend with a host of club sides in action. Pictured are one of the U11 development squads

League Action

The u14 Premier side had an excellent but slender 1-0 win at home to Knocknacarra fc in the Premier League with Daniel Keady netting while the u14B side had to come from behind to defeat Corrib Celtic in the u14 division 2 table, a 3-1 victory with three goals in the last seven minutes with the goals courtesy of Luke O Connor and a brace from Maxime Ludjanakov.

At u12 Premier level, Maree/Oranmore fc had to battle hard in a a very close game against a good Knocknacarra fc side unfortunate to go down 4-3 to the visitors after conceding some soft goals, the scores came courtesy of Jack Raftery and a brace from Ryan Cleary. The u12 Div 1 side were held to a scoreless draw by a solid Athenry fc side with James Lennon in particular putting in a solid defensive display. The u12 div 2 side headed up by Martin Joyce and Fergus Kelliher drew 2-2 with Merlin Woods fc/Medtronic with Oisin Stack and Kevin Blankson scoring.

Cup Action

The u12 championship side went down to Castlebar in the Connacht Cup against the local Celtic side, the lads played very well but goals from Cian Quirke and Daragh Mill were not enough in a 5-2 defeat.

U11 Development Squad

Our club fielded two u11 development sides who travelled to Headford to take on Moyne Villa on a lovely Sunday morning in a series of very close games with nothing separating the sides. Thanks to Gareth Ramberg, Dan Mc Cormack, Wes Coyne and Kieran O Connell with their hard work with these emerging players, special credit to Moyne Villa with facilities they must be very proud of.

Invitational Tournament

The u9 and u10 boys section of our club organised St Columbas Invitational Tournament went ahead in lovely sunshine last Sunday morning with large crowds once more in attendance.
