At Irish Cup level there were some very fine results, the u12s travelled to Athlone on Sunday to play the local AC Celtic in the SFAI u12 Cup and came away with a hard earned 2-1 win with Liam Burke and Daragh Cleary netting. The u17s had a very fine 2-1 win against a strong Ardee Celtic side in Oranmore on Sunday in the FAI u17 Cup last 32,first half goals from Alex Fearon and Alan Greene sealed a deserved win against a very well organised Co Louth side. They follow their u18 counterparts into the last 16.Both sides were encouraged to play good football by excellent official Howard Mc Carthy.
Our girls u16 side had an emphatic win at home on Saturday in the WFAI u16 cup against visitors Strokestown Utd with the goals courtesy of strikes from Kayleigh Slevin,Aisling Quinn,Ailbhe Doyle amongst others,Good common sense refereeing from Colman Brady was a notable feature of a good game.No luck for the u15 boys who went down to a strong Salthill Devon side in the sfai u15 cup on a flattering 5-2 scoreline with the Devon lads notching two goals in the last four minutes. The Maree/Oranmore goals came from Gavin Smyth who finished a Cian Horgan corner and a long distance free from Ronan Killilea.A brave performance from the lads who just came up short against excellent opponents.
In the u13 boys championship Maree/Oranmore fc drew with Salthill Devon with Christian Kowacyzk scoring with an excellent save by Cian Reddington at the death ensuring a 1-1 draw.In a series of u11 Development games on Saturday last against Merlin Woods fc in Doughuisca for players in our u12 div 4 and 5 sides, there were excellent performances from the following Oisin Stack,Daniel Kelly,Oisin Roberts on one of our two club sides and by Rory Kelleher,Daniel Hynes,Brian Carroll and Cian Quirke on the other club side. The u12 div 2 side went down 4-2 to Corrib Celtic in Annaghdown with goals from Michael Leahy and Sean Martyn in a good game for this young side.
