A Very good weekend for our Galway Clinic sponsored community soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc.Both the u12 and u14 boys sides advanced in their respective sfai and Connacht Cup competitions away.The u12 A side needed extra time to defeat a good Ballymoe side from the Roscommon and District League on a 3-1 scoreline in Ballymoe on Sunday last in the Connacht Cup.Goals from Daniel Keady and a brace from Daragh Cleary secured a fine win.
Probably the best win of the weekend was the u14 boys who advanced in the sfai u14 Cup away to an excellent Athenry FC side in a keenly contested tie on Saturday last with Gavin Smyth and Daragh Neary getting the all important scores while Kieran Mc Carthy netted for the home side following an excellent through ball by Athenrys Daire Mc Carthy.
A fine win for Kevin Costelloes and Trevor Quinns charges who this weekend play Fahy Rovers from Mayo in the Connacht Cup.
In the U12 Connacht Shield Gary Loughlins u12 b side went down to a last minute winner to St Bernards fc in Oranmore in a 4-3 thriller with Ben Trainor(2) and Liam Lernihan netting.
Both of our clubs u17/u18 Youths sides will be happy,The u17/u18 Division 1 side continued their unbeaten run and moved into pole position following a well earned 6-2 win in Drom to Salthill Devon on Sunday last with goals from Tommy Hennessy(2),Dean Mooney(2),Jack Grealish and Jason Meehan.The u17/u18 Premier side travelled to Clarenbridge on Sunday last and defeated the home side 4-1 with goals courtesy of Daragh O Connor,Princewell Diala,Sean Delany and Alex Fearon.
The club compete on Sunday next in the FAI Youth Cup away to Newport Town,a tricky outing to North Tipperary.
The Junior Reserve Team drew 3-3 with Tuam Celtic on Sunday last with goals compliments of James Cahalane,Steve Matthews and Kenny Masterson.
This Saturday sees our u16 girls compete in the Womens FAI Cup at home to Kilkerrin Utd,we wish them well.
The winners of our recent club members development draw were announced in Keanes on Saturday last.The first prize winner was Ronan Stokes of Renville,Second was Rita Healy of Castlegar and third was Fionn Stapleton of Frenchfort.Thanks to Alan Carr and to Roisin Forde for her help in drawing the winners.The members draw is to assist in the construction of a 4g pitch for our community which is badly needed in our current weather conditions.
