An Excellent weekend for our community based soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc kindly sponsored by The Galway Clinic with a plethora of club teams in Cup and League action.
U14 Success
On Saturday both of our u14 club teams were victorious, the u14 Premier team travelled to Milebush in Castlebar in the Connacht Cup and came away with an excellent 5-0 win against Westport based Fahy Rovers with goals courtesy of Myles Loughran, Ben Burke, Steven Healy, Gavin Smyth and an og. This was a fine team performance with Rowan Allan playing an excellent game. The u14b side travelled to Na Forbacha on Saturday last in the League and came away with a very hard earned 5-3 win against Bearna Na Forbacha Aontaithe. The goalscorers were Seamie Fallon(2), Neil Taylor, Eimhin Carroll and Kowaczyk in a pulsating game.
U12 Leagues
At u12 Level in League action, the u12 Premier side defeated a brave Tuam Celtic side 5-0 in Oranmore on Saturday morning with a brace from Darragh Clery and three from Colm Whelan. The U12 Div 2 side will be happy with a 4-2 victory against a battling Cregmore/Claregalway side with the scores courtesy of a brace from Jamie Lardner and strikes from Michael Leahy and Harry Gilberts to ensure a fine win for Fionn Stapletons charges. No luck for our u12 Div 4 side who conceeded a last minute winner at home to St Bernards Utd to go down 2-1, scorer for Maree/Oranmore was Cian Quirke.
U15's and U16's League
The u15 Premier side had a comfortable win against a brave but depleted Kilnadeema/Leitrim side Ramblers Utd over the weekend with goals courtesy of Cian Horgan(2), Gavin Smyth, Ronan Killilea and Ciaran Black in an excellent win. The u16s also had a fine win with a merited 2-1 victory against Colga fc in Division 1 with Luke Lally notching a brace to put them into second place in the table.
Irish Cup
The u18 club side faced a dogged and determined Newport Town in the FAI U18 Cup and squeezed past the Tipperary lads on a narrow 1-0 victory in the well appointed Derryleigh Park in Newport. The crucial first half goal came from Eoghan Mc Donagh. Maree/Oranmore fc would like to thank Newport Town for the post match refreshments provided.
Not so fortunate were our clubs u16 girls who came up against a superb Kilkerrin Utd side on Saturday last in Oranmore, the visitors gave an exhibition of swift passing and tempo but our girls will bounce back on Sunday next with a league tie at home to Kilshanvey Utd.
Tournament
The St Columbas Credit Union Invitational Tournament continued on Sunday last for u9 and u10 boys sides with once more large crowds attending. There is no Tournament this side of Christmas as families prepare for the festive season and will resume in January.
