A good weekend for community based soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc who are kindly sponsored by The Galway Clinic.The clubs u12 and u14 Premier boys have both qualified for the last 32 of their respecive sfai cup competitions after marvellous victories both after extra time against Castlebar Celtic and Ballymote Celtic.The u12s defeated Castlebar Celtic in Castlebar 3-2 after extra time in a very closely contested game.with the all important goals courtesy of Eanna Costello,Daniel Keady and Colm Whelan.They will now face a long journey to Co Donegal to face Illistrin Utd in the last 32.
The u14s had to work hard to get past an excellent Ballymote Celtic side from Co Sligo to win 3-1 after extra time.Goals from Myles Loughran and a brace from Gavin Smyth put the lads into the kast 32 of the National Cup where they are away to Co Kildare club Kilcullen.Its back to League action this Saturday when they play Bearna Na Forbacha Aontaithe in Oranmore.
Amazingly all seven of our clubs u12 sides were in action last Saturday.The u12 Division 1 side defeated West Coast Utd 4-2 in Oranmore with David O Loughlin(2),Jack Cormican and Jack Raftery netting while the u12 championship side went down 1-0 to Oughterard afc while the u12 Division 4 side came from 2-0 down to defeat Galway Hibernians 4-3 with the goals coming from Liam O Broin(2),Cian Quirke and Kevin Blankson with fine displays too from Brian Carroll,Jonah O Halloran,Rory Kelliher and central defender Niall Dawson.In the u14 div 2 League tussle Maree/Oranmore went down 3-1 to a gamely Macdara side in Carraroe with Seaghan Corry netting.Disappointment for our u18A side who went down 3-1 to Athenry fc in the U18 Connacht Cup in freezing conditions on Sunday last with Sean Delany netting and the side playing some neat football.Best wishes to Oisin Smith and Rory Carberry who picked up injuries in the game.
This weekend will see the last round of fixtures before the Christmas break for our older league sides with the adult Junior A side hosting Sligo side Cartron Utd in The Connacht Junior Cup on Sunday..This Saturday will see Santa visit our younger boys and girls at their regular academy session,training for our younger kids after Saturday next will resume on January 6th.
Our club will be organising several fundraising ventures in the new year and we would appreciate parental and community support as it is becoming increasingly challenging to keep our large community based club afloat.All club details on club facebook page.
