A very good weekend on the playing pitches far and wide for a plethora of Maree/Oranmore fc club sides. No fewer than six of our clubs boys u12 sides were in competitive action last Saturday and Sunday. The u12 Premier side had to work hard in the sfai u12 Regional semi final in Athlone against a physically strong St Francis fc side and came away with a deserved 1-0 win with Colm Whelan finishing an Eanna Costello corner to seal it for Mike Dalys charges. The lads will now play the winners of Westport Utd and Athenry fc in the u12 Regional Final. The u12 Div 2 side had a hard earned 2-1 win at home on Saturday v Craughwell Utd with goals from the impressive Fionn Fahy and a fine second half strike from Ruairi Fallon to seal the win for Fionn Stapletons side.
The u12 Div 4 side under the capabable management of Fergus Kelleher and Martin Joyce were held to a 1-1 draw in a fine game of football with Liam O Broin netting following nice work from Brian Carroll.Great energy from Conor Joyce in midfield and the pacey Jonah O Halloran on the left flank. An added feature of the game was nice covering play from Rory Kelleher and good passing from midfielder Liam O Donnell.
The u12 Div 3 side travelled to Kinvara Utd on Saturday last but went down 6-3 in a thriller with Brendan Feerick getting a brace and Niall Fallon netting too in a much impoved performance from Eoghan Griffins charges. The u12 Div 5 went down to Craughwell Utd away but there were good performances from Oisin Roberts in goals with strong attacking runs from Oisin Stack ,Daniel Kelly and Geoff Cannon.A much improved performance from Joe Dillons side.
Not to be forgotten Pat Costellos u12 girls were held to a 2-2 draw under lights in moyne villa in Headford on Friday night with the goals courtesy of strikes from Danielle Grealish and Orlaith Geraghty. This was a fine game for an ever improving group of determined players.
The u14 div 2 side moved into 3rd position in the League by virtue of a fine 4-1 win against Loughrea Rams with Neil Taylor and Krystian Kowaczyk netting three in a good game on Sunday afternoon in Oranmore. The u16 girls recovered from conceeding an early penalty to Mervue but bounced back with an Aisling Quinn goal for the game in Fahys Field to finish 1-1.Well done to all the girls and their hard working management Team of Tony Jordan,John Brogan and Fiona Slevin for their fine progress to date.
The u17/u18 Youths Premier side cosolidated their position at the top of the table defeating Tuam Celtic 4-2 in Tuam on Sunday afternoon last.Coming from 2-0 down this was a most impressive display with Sean Delany netting a brace. The club will play in the FAI u17 New Balance Cup away to Coachford afc in the last 16 of the Irish Cup this weekend in Co Cork,we wish them well. The u18s are also in the last 16 and play Carrigaline Utd the following weekend in Oranmore.
