Our local community based Soccer Club Maree/Oranmore fc kindly sponsored by The Galway Clinic had a very busy weekend with many club teams in action.The u12 Premier side had a very successful trip from March 23rd to 25th to Brighton and Hove Albion cross channel.Included in the trip were coaching sessions in the Brighton Academy,Tour of the Amex Stadium,games against Brighton and Crawley Town and viewing of several top games.Thanks to all the kids and their parents who travelled and to David Watterson,Mike Quirke, Kevin Costello’s and Mike Daly who organised the logistics of the trip.The u12 Premier side will be looking forward to their upcoming Connacht Cup semi final the weekend after next.
The u18 Boys maintained their position at the top of the Premier League Table after a 2-0 victory against rivals Mervue in Fahys Field with Sean Delany netting a brace,the lads face Salthill Devon in the Jimmy Sullivan Cup on Friday night in what should be a close encounter.
The u15 Premier side were rather fortunate in Millars Lane on Saturday last against a determined Knocknacarra fc side.Two nill up,5 minutes into the second half after goals from Cian Horgan and Gavin Smyth,the Maree/Oranmore lads let the hosts back into the game following excellent work from Knocknacarra fc winger Cillian Bray.However a late late Ronan Killilea winner saw the Maree/Oranmore lads prevail 3-2 and remain in second place,challenging for honours.
The u12 div 4 side played a thriller against Kiltullagh Pioneers on Saturday last in Oranmore in the League but were unlucky to go down 2-1 to the visitors with Jonah O Halloran netting.Captained on Saturday by the tigerish Rory Kelleher,there were strong performances from Liam O Broin,Conor Joyce,Adam Kurill,Halloran and Kelleher.This indeed was an excellent game played in the correct spirit of sportsmanship.
The big game on Saturday night under lights was the adult Premier game away to rivals Mervue in Fahys Field.It was a close encounter with the Maree/Oranmore lads just being edged out by a strike from Barry Moran late in the first half.The Junior lads have done well this season after being promoted and are presently joint fourth in a competitive League with eight League games remaining.The target preseason was survival in the Premier Division to consolidate affairs and build going forward.
The St Columbas Credit Union last Sunday was held in brilliant sunshine and featured boys sides at u9 and u10 age groups.There is no Tournament next sunday April 1st.There will be academy Training next Easter Saturday March 31st.
The next round of Tournament games will be Sunday week April 8th for u9 and u10 boys sides.The Grand Finals day takes place on Sunday April 22nd with a real family day due with medals for all participating kids of all ages,with a real festival of Football due.Great credit is due to Sean Horsman and David Watterson Tournament Directors.
