Another busy and successful weekend for local community based soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc kindly sponsored by The Galway Clinic.
The u12 Premier side have reached the u12 Connacht Cup final for the first time since 2013 when they defeated Mervue utd u11A side 3-1 in the Connacht semi final in Oranmore last sunday. Despite conceeding an early dubious penalty,Maree/Oranmore fc produced a strong second half performance with a brace of goals from Ballinacourty lad Eanna Costello and a neat finish from Dara Cleary to reach the final where their opponents will be the winners of the Westport Utd and Mervue Utd A side, a tie due to be played next Saturday. There were fine performances all over the park with Colm Whelan,Cormac Quinlan,Daniel Keady and Colm Shivnan catching the eye in a strong squad performance.
The adult Premier side put in a brave strong performance in South Park on Sunday but went down 3-2 to West Utd with goals from Maree/Oranmore from Malachy Black and Chris O Dowd.
The u17/U18 div 1 side had a hard earned 3-0 victory against Loughrea to top their division with Oughterard afc. With just one league game left for each club this will go down to the wire for siverware. There were very impressive performances from Oliver Mc Camley,Thomas Heraghty,Shane Mc Dermott and shotstopper Conor Carroll for The Maree/Oranmore lads who now face Merlin Woods in their final game.
The u15 Premier Boys side received the points surprisingly from Ramblers who conceeded on Saturday and now top their division as this league is wide open and competitive.
The u16 girls travelled to Kilconly for their league game against Kilshanvey Utd on Saturday evening last and came away with a hard earned 3-2 victory with Erin Doyle and a brace from Aisling Quinn deciding the outcome.The girls play Oughterard afc next.
Not so fortunate were the u12 girls who went down 4-3 to Colga in the League on Sunday in Oranmore,playing well the goals came from Caroline Mulroy and a brace from Danielle Grealish in a good game.
The u12 division 4 side were pipped away in New Village Oughterard on a 4-3 scoreline with three cracking goals from Liam O Donnell,Niall Dawson and Liam O Broin.This was end to end football played against our friends in Oughterard afc.
Last Thursday night the u13 Premier side drew 2-2 with neighbours Colga fc in the League with Colga notching a late late equaliser. The Maree/Oranmore goals came courtesy of Ryan O Donnell and Aaron Doyle.
The St Columbas Credit Union Invitational Tournament continued last sunday for u9 and u10 boys in fine weather conditions.The finals/family day for all our Tournament Clubs and teams will take place on Sunday April 29th. Galway Bay fm will be present with special guests and specially commissioned medals for all players along with fun for all the family.
Midweek games are now the norm as we reach the business end of the season.
