A fine week for local community based club Maree/Oranmore fc kindly sponsored by the Galway Clinic with more silverware heading to the club after capturing the u12 Premier League on Friday night last. A goal in the second half from Daragh Cleary against a very strong Mervue Utd side saw Maree/Oranmore prevail 1-0 to capture the coveted silverware which will be presented after the final League game on Wednesday night against Athenry in Oranmore at 7.30pm.
This has been a fine season for the u12 Premier lads who lost just one league game all season and winning 12 especially after the disappointment of losing the Connacht Cup Final on penalties against Westport Utd recently, They have still to play the Sfai u12 Regional final in early June against Westport Utd away. This is now the second piece of silverware won by the club following the recent u17/u18 Division 1 League success.
The u14 Premier League side are still in contention for Premier League honours after an exciting 1-1 draw last Saturday in Oranmore against Mervue with Steven Healy netting in a very close encounter. The lads have four remaining games left with possibly four clubs in contention including Maree/Oranmore fc in the battle for the division.
The u15 Premier League side who are having a good season have 2 games left against Bearna/Forbacha Aontaithe and Mervue. On Sunday last they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Kilshanvey Utd with Conal Doyle scoring in an entertaining encounter between two good sides. The lads are hoping to finish third in the Premier Division.
The adult Junior side much depleted went down to Mervue on Sunday last in the Premier League with Neil Greaney netting. Credit to manager Emlyn Long whose side finished a credible 7th in the top tier well clear of relegation on our clubs return to the top tier. They still have a Michael Byrne Cup semi final to go for on may 27th away to Renmore afc. We wish them well. The adult reserve League defeated Craughwell Utd as they wind down their League campaign.
The girls u16s face Salthill Devon in their League semi final in Drom and we wish the panel and the management trio of Tony Jordan,John Brogan and Fiona Slevin the very best.
Our May members draw will take place next Saturday May 26th at 9.45pm in Keanes,Oranmore. Thanks to all for their continued support.
Maree/Oranmore fc will enter three u11 teams in the forthcoming Kevin Power Cup and three teams in the u10 boys Cup both of whom will be played in Eamonn Deacy Park. Thanks to acting Galway and District League chair Tom Trill for his work on this and many other aspects of the game here in Galway.
