Another fine weekend for Galway Clinic sponsored local community club Maree/Oranmore fc.
The adult Premier side travelled to Millars Lane on Sunday last and came away with an excellent 4-1 win with Peter Greaney netting three and Mike Fahy adding to the tally against a good Bohs side who performed well especially in the opening period. The result is testimony to the hard work put in by Don O Riordan and his assistant Hugh O Neill.
The u12 premier boys side travelled to Sligo on Saturday afternoon in the u12 sfai cup and defeated Merville Utd 4-1 in a fine performance. The goalscorers were Jack Leahy(3) and Sean Stapleton. Meanwhile The David Watterson led u12 boys championship side drew 2-2 in Drom against Salthill Devon in their opening League game. A powerful display in goals by Niall De Paor was a feature of an exciting game with Niall Dawson and Ruairi Fallon netting.
The u16 girls travelled to Cappagh Park on Sunday last and were held to a 1-1 draw against Knocknacarra fc with Roise Mc Mahon getting on the scoresheet in a good game of football.
The u12 girls made it two wins from two with a fine 3-0 win against Oughterard afc B with goals courtesy of Grace Mc Anespie,Emer Brosnahan and Katie Costello. Pat Costello will be happy with the progress of the girls. Certainly the recent appointment of the Oran Precast Girls Director of coaching Roisin Jacob has paid dividends already as we seek to develop the girls game locally.
The u16 Boys who compete like all our boys sides in the Premier Division led four times against Athenry fc away last Sunday but came away with a 4-4 draw in a game with end to end football. The important scores came from a brace from Conall Doyle,a penalty from Gavin Smyth and a Ciaran Black finish. This was possibly two points dropped against gritty opposition.
The u17/U18 Premier boys side got off to the perfect start of the season and were probably flattered by a 2-0 victory against a very skillful and tactically astute Colga side. The important goals came from Eoin Lyons and Alan Greene. In truth this was a good game of football where neither side deserved to loose. The u18s take on Athenry fc away next Sunday.
