A truly excellent weekend for our Galway Clinic sponsored local community based club Maree/Oranmore fc with 12 club sides in action this past weekend and the club winning 11 of the 12 games.
Juniors and U21
The adult Premier League side got back to winning ways defeating local rivals Merlin Woods fc/Medtronic on a 4-2 scoreline after leading 2-0 at half time last Sunday afternoon in Oranmore.Goals from Eoghan Mc Donagh, Eoin Roche, Pete Greaney and Neil Greaney helped the lads gather a valuable three points.
In the Connacht Junior Cup a mainly u21 side represented the second adult team in the club on Sunday morning last in Ballyglass, Co Mayo and came away with a 4-2 win against Ballyglass B with a brace from Sean Delany and goals from Oisin Lyons and Sean Doyle doing the business for Noel Greaneys young charges.
Connacht Cup
In Connacht Cup action at u12, u14 and u16 level, Maree/Oranmore fc won all six cup games on Saturday last. The u16s eased past a brave Salthill Devon B side in the u16 Connacht Cup in Oranmore on Saturday last with hat tricks courtesy of Gavin Smyth and Ciaran Black and a brace from Cian Horgan among the scorers. They will face a much tougher task in Tuam next weekend in the sfai u16 Barry Cup against a good Tuam Celtic side. The u14 Premier and u14 Div 2 Boys both advanced in their respective Cup games. The u14 Premier side defeated a battling Galway Hibernians side on a 4-1 scoreline with goals courtesy of Colm Whelan, Ryan Mill, Ben Costello and Seaghan Corry while the u14 Div 2 side managed by Tom Reddington defeated Athenry fc B on a 3-0 scoreline in Athenry with the goals coming from Aidan Allan and a brace from Maksime Ludjanakov.
U12 Boys
Our six u12 boys sides were in action, three in u12 Connacht Cup fare and three in League action. The u12 Premier side advanced in the Connacht Cup after a hard earned 3-1 away win to Knocknacarra Fc in Cappagh Park with good finishes from Alan Burke, Jack Leahy and Daniel Gilbert. The u12 championship side under David Watterson had a strong win against North Galway club Kilshanvey Utd in Oranmore also in the Connacht Cup, among the goalscorers were Darragh Mill(4), Ruairi Fallon(2), Cian Quirke, Kieran Watterson, Alek Szoska and Brian Conneely. One of the really impressive results over the weekend was the u12 Div 1 side win over Mervue also in the Cup in a ding dong close game, goals from Conor Goodwin and Cillian Costello secured the win. In League action the u12 Div 2 side started their League campaign with a 3-2 away win against our friends in Oughterard afc with strikes from Oisin Stack and a brace from Rossie Brian Carroll. The u12 div 3 side defeated Loughrea B 3-2 to get Kieran O Connells charges off to winning ways. The u12 div 4 side took the lead courtesy of the excellent Noah Dowling but a stronger Knocknacarra fc won out 4-1 winners in the end.
U12 Girls
Not to be outdone the u12 girls made it three wins from three with a comprehensive win against Bearna Na Forbacha Aontaithe C in Oranmore last Saturday morning.
Academy Training
Our Academy training on Saturday afternoons for u6 to u10 boys and girls is attracting large numbers, parents are reminded that all players who train/play with Maree/Oranmore fc must be registered. This can simply be done by downloading the Clubify App.
Last Man Standing
Maree/Oranmore fc will shortly be distributing Last Man Standing Cards to all club players and their families. A chance to test your soccer predictions for just a tenner with the winner getting a thousand euro. This is a vital club fundraiser which requires your support to maintain and grow your childs community club.
Football for all
Through our Football For All Officer Paul Mc Carthy, our club will shortly be providing 14 kids with a variety of special needs a chance to play the beautiful game, this is part of Maree/Oranmore FCs commitment to all in our community who wish to play the game.
