Maree Oranmore FC had a busy and successful past weekend. Firstly our club would like to thank the 660 punters who supported our clubs very successful Last Man Standing Competition well organised by the excellent Brian Geraghty, one lucky person will be a thousand euro richer using their soccer knowledge and skill, best wishes and thanks to all who supported this crucial fundraiser.
Brian Murray our girls Academy organiser is organising a Halloween soccer camp for girls from u5 to u10 in our community on Thursday and Friday nov 1st and 2nd from 9.30am to 1.30pm in the Maree Indoor Astro. Bookings now through our club facebook page.
Irish Cup
The u14 Boys had to work extremely hard on Saturday against Co Mayo club Ballyheane and it took a second half finish from Ryan Mill to separate the sides. No joy for the u12a boys side in the sfai u12 Norton Cup who went down to Ballina Utd away on a 5-2 scoreline with Jack Leahy netting a brace in the North Mayo Town on Saturday last.
Galway Cup
In local Cup action the u12 girls had a good 3-0 win the u12 Div 1 cup against visitors Knocknacarra fc with the goals coming from Grace Anespie, Katie Costello and Hannah Furey. A depleted u16 Girls side unfortunately went down 2-1 in Oranmore to Knocknacarra fc in the u16 girls Cup with Aisling Quinn netting in a very close game.
League Action
The u12 Div 1 side had a fine 3-1 win against Mervue in Fahys Field with Cillian Costello notching a brace and John Smith also netting in an excellent team performance. The u12 championship side had a super 6-1 win at home also to Mervue with Caelan Coleman getting three, Cian Quirke(2) and Luke Hanniffy getting on the scoresheet and great leadership shown by captain, the excellent Kieran Watterson. Not to be outdone the u12 div 2 side travelled to Drom and came away with a 2-0 win against Salthill Devon with Brian Carroll netting two.
The u11 Development League continued in Maree on Sunday last with a series of competitive games against visitors Kiltullagh Pioneers.
The u14 Division 2 boys side had a comfortable win against a depleted St Bernards Utd side with Aidan Allan and Alex Roberts doing very well and Maxime Ludjanakov getting a hat trick for Tom Reddingtons charges. The u16 Premier boys moved to the top of the table with a fine home win against visitors Knocknacarra fc in a much closer game than the 5-1 result suggests with a hat trick from Gavin Smyth and goals from Conal Doyle and Daniel Carr.
Elite Players!
Well done to youth players Alan Greene and Alex Fearon who represented our club with distinction in the Interpros held in Cork city over the weekend. Congratulations also to former player Donal Higgins who has been called up for the next Ireland U18 fixture. Donal is captain of the Galway Utd U17 squad and played for the Senior team towards the end of the season.
Invitational Tournament
The club organised St Columba's Credit Union Invitational Tournament commences this coming Sunday October 28th with u7 and u8 boys and u8 and u10 boys kicking off proceedings. Club Tournament Director Sean Horsman deserves great credit for his hard work and enquiries re same to mofcinvit@gmail.com Parents are reminded that only club registered players can take part, club jersey, togs and socks which are required to be worn in the Tournament are available from McInerneys Sports in Oran Town Centre.
