Another hectic and successful weekend for Galway Clinic sponsored local community soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc with a plethora of club sides in action and our club organised St Columba's Credit Union Invitational Tournament commencing last Sunday.

Juniors

The Adult Premier side were rather depleted last Sunday morning playing Galway Hibernians in the League and despite leading 2-0 with a brace of penalties from Neil Greaney, complacency crept in the second half and Don O Riordans charges went down 4-2 after the lads played some great football in the opening half. The Adult B side were mainly made up of u20/u21 players and in the Connacht Junior Cup, they defeated a depleted Mayo club Snugboro Utd on an 8-1 scoreline with four from Sean Delany and a brace each from James Cahalane and Jordan O Hagan in a very fine win.

League Games

The u15 Premier boys side had a very hard earned 3-1 Premier League victory on Saturday last against an excellent Corrib Celtic with the goals coming courtesy of Tom Delany, Fintan O Regan and Gavin Smyth. The u13 Premier side continued their good start with a narrow 2-1 away victory to an excellent Craughwell Utd side in a very entertaining game with the first half goals courtesy of Eanna Costello and Daniel Keady. Gary Loughlins u13 Division 1 side will be very happy with a comfortable away win against Kinvara Utd with strikes from Ben Trainor(2), Liam Lernihan(2), Ciaran Mc Donagh, Niall Fallon and Shane Carney. The u15 Div 2 side travelled to Oughterard afcs New Village ground and came away with a smashing 2-0 win.

Girls Teams

The u18 girls on Sunday were narrowly pipped 1-0 by Mervue in a real close encounter on Sunday afternoon in Oranmore.

Cup Action

In the FAI u17 Cup Maree/Oranmore fc had to work really hard against Tuam Celtic but eased away comfortably in the end with goals from Ciaran Black(2), Gavin Smyth(2) and Cody McCann in a very fine win.

St Columba's Credit Union Invitational Tournament

This week saw the opening of the Tournament with Girls U8 and U10 teams and Boys U7 and U8 teams togging out in fine conditions using the large Astro, Oranmore cages and Boys School Astro in Oranmore. Well done to all teams for some fantastic soccer, plenty of goals and lots of fun. Next Sunday sees the u9 and u10 boys sides from a variety of clubs in action in our St Columbas Credit Union Invitational Tournament with the emphasis on fun and skills development in a non competitive setting.

Development Members Draw

Our monthly members Club Development Draw was held on Saturday last to assist in our new 4g pitch project. First prize went to Eoghan Griffin (Prospect Maree), second prize went to Wally Walsh (Ashbrook, Oranmore) and third prize went to Damien Lafferty of Oranhill, Oranmore.
