A real mixed bag of results for local community based soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc this past weekend.
League Boys
Both u13 sides had solid results last Saturday. The u13 Premier side had to endure very poor weather as they played out an exciting 3-3 draw with Salthill Devon with goals courtesy of a brace from Eanna Costello and a strike from Dara Cleary to remain top of the table. The u13 Div 1 side under Gary Loughlin had a fine 2-1 away win in Carraroe against Macdara. The goals came from Liam Lernihan and Ciaran Mc Donagh. The u12 Div 1 side meanwhile played a 1-1 draw at home against Kiltullagh. The u12 div 2 side moved to the summit of the table with an excellent 1-0 away win in Abbeyknockmoy with Conor Joyce netting.
The u15 Div 2 side will be well happy with a fine 2-1 win last Saturday against Knocknacarra fc with Sam Lund scoring twice.
The u17/U18 Div 2 side were at home on Sunday and drew 2-2 with Ramblers fc with goals from Cathal Fallon and Luke Lally.
Irish Cup
There was heartbreak on Sunday last in Irish Cup competitions for our u14 and u18 sides. The u14s went 2-0 up to Merville Utd in the sfai u14 cup in Oranmore only to be pegged back on 2-2. They then lead 3-2 only to be pipped at the end 4-3 by our Sligo Town visitors. Colm Whelan got all the goals.
A last minute winner from a close in free kick in Waterford from Villa fc in the second period of extra time caused heartbreak in the FAI Youth Cup for our u18 Premier side with Villa fc squeezing through 3-2 in an extremely close and competitive game(normal time finished 1-1). This could have gone either way with Danny Travis and Alan Greene netting from a free kick. An all round excellent display from both sides where we went agonisingly close and really deserved to advance. Next up for the lads is an eagerly awaited Premier League tie v Mervue.
The u17s have reached the last 16 of the FAI u17 cup and have received a home draw against Ferrybank from Waterford.
Academy
A very wet Academy was moved indoors and the St Columba's Credit Union Invitational Tournament was cancelled on Sunday. Our younger members can look forward to a visit from Santa Claus very shortly.
