The weather was the only winner as it played spoilsport on the bulk of Maree/Oranmore fc fixtures this past weekend. In particular the much awaited FAI u17 Cup quarter final v St Kevins Boys fell victim to pitch waterlogging in Oranmore on Sunday last. The Maree/Oranmore lads now lose home advantage and must travel to Whitehall, Dublin next Sunday ko 2pm. The scenario emphasises the importance of the clubs 4g artificial pitch development. Parents can join the Members Development Draw for less than a fiver weekly by texting Fergus on 087 2457626.
League Games
Two games on Saturday survived the adverse weather, the u12 div 1 side were held to a 0-0 draw away to Craughwell Utd to maintain their title aspirations while the u12 championship side went down 3-1 to a strong Moyne Villa side with Caelan Coleman netting with the Maree/Oranmore lads battling very well.
Calasanctius College Soccer
On Thursday last Calasanctius College Oranmore played the Connacht Senior A schools final against a strong Kiltimagh Community School side in Eamonn Deacy Park. However lady luck deserted them as they went down 3-2 to a well tuned Mayo College. The bulk of the squad represent our club of which we are proud of and special thanks to club coach Noel Greaney who voluntarily takes many of our local college secondary school teams in soccer. Special mention too to staff members Ruth Broderick, Patricia Treacy and Albert Flynn for their work. During the week also Domnic Delanys u16 boys side knocked out the Bish soccer nursery 1-0 in the Connacht Quarter Final.
Thanks also to our local Primary schools and their teachers who take soccer and indeed all sporting teams. The Maree National School coached by Mr Mc Donnell were pipped in their Galway Final this past week in Drom after winning all their games up to then.
Ireland Cap for Alan Greene!
Well done to u18 club player Alan Greene who played on the Irish home based side who won both their games in Wales last week,a great honour for his family and his community based club which caters from the elite to the developing player.Hard luck to Alan,Dara and Princewell who were on the Galway and District Youth Squad who were beaten by Wexford League away on Saturday last.

Good luck to our adult A side who play Manulla fc away in Co Mayo in the Connacht Junior Cup next Sunday. They are progressing very well under the leadership of Don O Riordan and Hughie O Neill.
