The weather played complete spoilsport once more this past weekend with just one club game surviving for local Galway Clinic sponsored community soccer club Maree/Oranmore fc.
SFAI Irish Cup Last 16
The u12a boys side suffered heartbreak when they lost in Cork in the last 16 of the sfai u12 cup to Midleton fc in game played on Lakewood 4g pitch outside Ballincollig. Midleton opened the scoring but an equaliser in the second half from David Mc Laughlin restored parity. Extra time failed to settle the sides and in the dreaded penalty shoot out Maree/Oranmore went down 3-2 on spot kicks. This was a very even competitive game which neither side deserved to loose but the Maree/Oranmore lads acquitted themselves very well. Good luck to Midleton FC in The National Cup Quarter final and we thank them for the post match hospitality.
Adult Soccer
Our Connacht Junior Cup and Shield games for our adult sides take place this weekend with our Premier side playing St Peters of Athlone away while our Adult Div 3 side host Mervue B.
There are a plethora of other club games and hopefully pitch and weather conditions will improve.
Beginners Coaching Course
Maree/Oranmore fc are hosting in Maree on Sunday March 8th a beginners coaching course run in conjunction with the FAI, the PDP 1 Coaching course specially designed for our coaches in our Academy. Our club coaches are encouraged to register on the FAI website, pay the fee and our club will reimburse the money paid as a small gesture to our club volunteers who give so much of their time to develop our club.
Registrations
Any new players in our Academy since Christmas must register and pay the reduced membership fee. Text 087 9806489 for details. No registration means no club games or training.
Maree/Oranmore fc would like to deeply sympathise with the family of the late Bobby O Connor of Bluebell Woods, Oranmore who passed away suddenly last week. Bobbys son Luke is one of our valued u15 club players and Bobby was a very positive influence and supporter of that club side as they played their football far and wide. Our club were proud to provide a guard of honour at the packed funeral mass last Sunday in Oranmore. May he rest in peace.
